Technology for the Long Haul

For any business to remain competitive it’s vital to keep up with the latest technology. Freight services and 3PL companies rely heavily on offering a service that can deliver before the opposition can. If this is to be achieved, the right technology plays a major role in getting the freight there first!

Consideration must also be given to the type of freight being hauled. It’s one thing to get the freight there first but what about perishable goods. With food going interstate there’s a “used by” date to consider. Again, the right technology will aid in the most effective time management plans with the goods arriving fresh and intact. Hazardous goods must be transported within the OH&S and safe environmental policies.

Build a Team

The right information to the right personnel is a key factor in building a team environment. Transport operators need constant updates on traffic conditions to arrive safely and on time. Logistics personnel must have constant access to freight locations in order to provide accurate delivery times. Warehouse staff must receive orders with adequate time to prepare them and in turn must also be aware of freight schedules.

The Right Tools

Truck drivers need the right apps to assist with fuel economy, time management and safety. The operations staff need effective software to ensure day to day duties are achieved quickly and efficiently. Warehouse staff need the latest scanning equipment to ensure orders are picked and dispatched effectively. Then there’s the management and accounting staff who must be able to channel the right information to the right people.

Third Party Logistics (3PL)

In a fast paced 3PL environment the combination of driver’s apps, online portal, TMS, WMS, and accounting systems often operate autonomously or will not be completely integrated. This can create confusion and prove costly through the lack of, or misplaced information. The right technology meshes in and integrates, delivering the right information to the people. The end result being a team of happy staff that are more productive.

Our New Venture

At Freight Assist Australia we are constantly looking for new ways to improve our operation. Currently we are in the development stage of a complete update of our entire logistics software. The result will be a state of the art transport system that integrates driver apps, our online portal, back end TMS management to our accounting system (XERO) and WMS (CartonCloud) system which will allow for a seamless flow of information. We will also employ tracking methodologies and scan to load capabilities.

Bright Future

Once completed, our new transport system will allow us to operate more effectively. This will have a positive effect on our staff and equip them to be more productive. A more effective operation with greater productivity will allow us to achieve our ultimate goal, better customer service.
